MANIDI
Project Liaison: John Twardos, Bethesda Lutheran Communities, USA
IMPACT began its support in the Dominican Republic in July 2003, partnering with MANIDI, a community-based project for adolescents. The project consisted of several components:
- support of mothers group
- employment training and opportunities
- education on rights
- support and education to other organizations and health professionals
IMPACT ended its financial support of the MANIDI project in June 2006. At that time, more than 100 teenagers and 300 families had been affected. The project provided an array of services to individuals with disabilities and their families that might not have otherwise been available. MANIDI is now a recognized organization in the community, has continued to provide vocational training and has a functioning Board of Directors.
